The Servant Christian Foundation: “Love Your Enemies”
The Servant Christian Foundation ads and “He Gets Us” or “He Gets Us, All Of Us” campaign are commercials that always strike a chord with me. I like how they present religion, especially Jesus, in a way that is relatable to people today. Particularly with this ad, it really touches on the countries boiling overly political ways and how they’re becoming so much for society. I like the way they show how society has been like wild animals, not thinking before they act and only thinking mostly of themselves and their beliefs, not even considering the other person and their beliefs or considering that person to be a person.
In today’s society, people get so wrapped up in being “righteous” or “politically correct” that we don’t even stop to think if what we say, post, and do is humanly correct. This ad does a great job of illustrating that as well as illustrating why and where we can change. Nothing is solved through hate, nothing. MLK would’ve gotten nowhere with hate, he is so historically important because no matter how much he was faced with hate he chose to respond in love, love for equal humanity, not one vs another.
This “Servant Christian Foundation ad” does a great job playing on human emotion or pathos to get the audience's attention. It clearly shows why their cause is so important using the relatively scary times of our reality that are often ignored until we are forced to face it, like with this ad. I think using the song “Human" also aids in well-representing their message, we are all human. We have emotions and boiling points to those emotions and when we’re pushed out of our comfort zone our minds and bodies freak out and we often don’t know how to react. No one is perfect, and no one should be judging another on how they feel and yet it happens all the time leading to outbursts much like what was depicted. This ad really relates to how a lot of people think and feel about the political climate in America, as well as worldwide since there’s not only strife going on in our country but worldwide.
What I like most about this ad is whether or not someone is religious, “Servant Christian Foundation” makes sure not to direct their ads at just religious people or shame and guilt people who aren’t religious, like a lot of non-religious people state feeling, but relate their ads to everyone. “He Gets Us. All of Us.” includes everyone, without dividing people into groups which this country is obsessed with doing, and works to unite a world and country in need of healing.
So I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting the commercial that I saw. Based on the name alone for the organization, I was expecting something that was going to present differently. As someone who did grow up in a religious setting, I expected it to be more of repenting your sins, or something that less relatable.
ReplyDeleteIf people spent a little less time hating people for reasons unbeknownst to them things could be so much better. I also got from this presentation from the faces of people that "Sometimes you don't even know why you're hating."
I'm big into documentaries and there is one that explains how religious organizations got so involved with the political climate. It's really interesting. I have no problem with religion perse, or anybody that does because it's a part of my life but I find it interesting how it dominates pretty much every society and based on writings or interpretations it changes everything.
Sorry for the long post, I just found it so interesting that it wasn't what I expected!
